Linh and her family.

My love of sewing started when I was young girl in Vietnam. My dad was a master tailor and I was his little helper. After he made the suits, I would sew on buttons and finish the hemlines. I would use the scraps to make clothes for my dolls. I also learned how to crochet from my grandmother. She taught me how to count stitches and change patterns to make tops and even a dress for my doll.

When we came to America, my Dad opened up his first store in 1987. Our humble beginning was in a 560sq. ft. shop. I helped out at the shop and also attended college at San Jose State. I studied nursing but later earned my B.S. degree in business. Instead of getting a job working for a big company I went back to my passion, sewing. My dad eventually opened up more stores in San Jose and I took over the Milpitas shop.

My hard work paid off. I have been repeatedly voted “Best Tailor of Milpitas” by the Post readers for many years. In 1994, the World Cup soccer tournament was held in Palo Alto and I was the chosen tailor! My team and I provided tailoring services for all of the World Cup employees, which included doctors, translators and administrative liaison staff members.

Eventually, word got around and I started getting more brides in my shop. Many of these brides have special requests such as adding sleeves, rebuild the top or raising necklines that has me expanding my services. There is a need for custom made and modest bridal gowns. In 2002 I moved my shop to the current location, which is three times bigger than the old one. I started to sell bridal gowns, bridesmaid dresses, tuxedo rentals, and also wedding gown cleaning and preservation.
